The first-ever Vocational Education Technical Sports (VETSUN) Games took place in Katima Mulilo, Zambezi Region, with an exciting culmination of five winning teams across five sports codes.

This historic event brought together eight vocational training centers (VTCs) from all over the country, with the Zambezi Vocational Training Center serving as the host. The games showcased talent, sportsmanship, and the unifying power of sport, creating lasting memories for all involved.

Richard Kambinda, Manager of the Zambezi Vocational Training Center, expressed his gratitude to all the participating teams, recognizing the event as a celebration of shared humanity and unity through sport.
"I am filled with immense gratitude and appreciation for each and every one of you who has contributed to make and witness this outstanding display of skills, sportsmanship, and cooperation," Kambinda said. He went on to praise the spirit of friendly competition and unity that characterized the games.

Bainga Nchindo, VETSUN Regional Chairperson for Zambezi, called the event a milestone not only for the region but for all vocational training centers in the country. He highlighted the spirit of unity present during the games and expressed hopes that this would continue in future editions of the event.

Although the host, Zambezi Vocational Training Center, did not make it into the top five, Nchindo acknowledged the efforts of all teams, encouraging further growth and development of sports within the region.

The winning teams from the five sports codes were as follows:

Netball: Gobabis Vocational Training Center (GVTC)

Nchindo also appealed to the Zambezi Regional leadership to establish sports facilities to encourage more youth participation in sporting activities, urging for infrastructure development to help keep young people engaged in positive activities.

"We want recreation and sports facilities for this region, so that young people can leave their homes or criminal activities and engage in healthy activities at a sports complex," Nchindo added.

Gideon Shikulo, VETSUN National Chairperson, also expressed his satisfaction with the successful hosting of the games by Zambezi VTC. He emphasized the importance of sports for students who spend most of their time in academic studies, noting how sports help build strong minds and promote overall well-being.

"Sports activities cannot be overemphasized, especially for those who are busy with books throughout the year," Shikulo said. "It refreshes students and keeps them healthy, enabling them to study better."

Looking ahead, Shikulo expressed excitement for the 2026 VETSUN Games, which he hopes will continue to foster teamwork and unity
