President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah emphasized the need for landlocked countries like Zambia to gain access to essential commodities, particularly oil, through efficient transport routes.
She highlighted that a dedicated pipeline from Walvis Bay port to Zambia would facilitate the delivery of petroleum products, reducing dependence on tankers and enhancing energy security for both nations.
During her introductory visit to Zambia, President Nandi-Ndaitwah and Zambian President Hakainde Hichilema discussed the importance of promoting smooth cross-border trade.
The Namibian president stressed the necessity of improving the movement of goods, especially at the Shesheke border, to bolster economic cooperation, create jobs, and enhance regional integration.
This initiative aligns with the broader goals of the Walvis Bay-Ndola-Lubumbashi Development Corridor, which aims to improve trade routes and infrastructure between Namibia and Zambia.
Additionally, President Nandi-Ndaitwah encouraged African entrepreneurs to partner with Namibians and explore opportunities in the oil industry following recent discoveries.
President Hichilema noted that the success of Namibia's oil initiatives would benefit not only Namibia but also Zambia, particularly through reduced fuel costs.
Namibia and Zambia share a strong border relationship built on improved infrastructure, trade cooperation, collaborative border management, and joint efforts in security and regional development.
