Eight households at Blouwes village in the ||Kharas Region have been connected to the national electricity grid.
This was done through an electrification project undertaken by the Swapo Party national leaders assigned to the region in collaboration with the local community.
The chairperson of national leaders assigned to the ||Kharas Region, Lucia Witbooi, officially commissioned the power supply to the houses.
"I took great interest in this project because I wanted to demonstrate that the Swapo Party is not just here to talk and ask the government to do everything for the people. But as the Swapo Party, we can also do what we can to assist our communities. It just needs that political will."
Witnessing the commissioning of the electrification project, Prime Minister Elijah Ngurare said his office also plans to establish gardening projects in rural areas across the country to address food insecurity.
"This is not a campaign. I am requesting that we give each other a month. And let's have identification of this place so that we can get to work. And when we are producing our own food, then we can also speak of a sovereign, independent country. And it is not true that there is no capacity to do it."
The power supply inauguration also coincided with Berseba's Swapo Party District mobilisation campaign aimed at canvassing votes for the Regional Councils and Local Authorities Elections slated for November.
