The Namibian Police Force has committed to intensifying its efforts against drug trafficking networks. During the observance of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, Police Chief Lieutenant General Joseph Shikongo issued a stern warning to criminal syndicates.
Shikongo highlighted the increasing threat posed by local and transnational drug dealers who are infiltrating communities.
He expressed particular concern about the targeting of young people, who are being drawn into drug use and trafficking.
The Police Chief emphasized that NamPol will continue to pursue drug traffickers through intelligence-led operations, inter-agency collaboration, and international partnerships.
He also recognized the necessity of broader interventions, advocating for investment in prevention, education, treatment, and rehabilitation.
Shikongo noted that NamPol is collaborating with schools, parents, youth groups, churches, and government ministries to strengthen community resilience.
Additionally, the Inspector General praised the ongoing cooperation with the Ministries of Health and Education, as well as with international agencies like the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, to develop a coordinated national response.
