The cabinet has taken two key decisions during its 18th decision-making meeting.
Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Minister Emma Theofelus says one of the two is the hosting of the Egmont Group of Financial Intelligence Units plenary meeting in Namibia in July 2027.
Theofelus added that the Cabinet granted approval to the Financial Intelligence Centre to host the Egmont Group Plenary.
The Egmont Group of Financial Intelligence Units is a multilateral international organisation that facilitates cooperation and the sharing of intelligence between national FIUs to investigate and prevent money laundering, terrorist financing and proliferation financing.
"Hosting the event will provide financial injection to micro, small and medium enterprises and the tourism sector, while promoting Namibia as a preferred destination globally, in line with the goals set out under Pillar 1 of the 6th National Development Plan (NDP 6)."
The second decision is the memorandum of understanding between the governments of Namibia and Zimbabwe on cooperation in the field of information and communication technology.
"Signing the agreement will strengthen bilateral relations, open avenues for joint initiatives, and promote regional collaboration in advancing digital transformation."
