Suicide has recently become a major concern in Namibia, with rising rates causing alarm among the government and communities.

The Victory Youth Group (VYG) held a Mega Help event aimed at empowering young people to overcome challenges and become visionary leaders.

Community and faith-based organisations in Namibia, including the Victory Youth Group, have stepped up their efforts to tackle the rising suicide crisis by focusing on mental health and depression.

They offer community outreach and create safe spaces to reduce stigma and build emotional resilience.

A key concern is the growing suicide rate among men, linked to cultural expectations that men must always appear strong and avoid showing vulnerability.

This stigma pressures men to suppress their feelings and shy away from seeking help, which forces them to resort to suicide. These groups are working to challenge these harmful norms and encourage men to speak out and access support.

The VYG also offers free services, such as counselling, academic support, mentorship, and career guidance.

These initiatives aim to address challenges like mental health, unemployment, addictions, and low self-esteem, empowering youth to build brighter futures.

The event drew thousands of young people seeking empowerment and personal development.
