While unemployment remains one of the biggest challenges facing young people across the country, two local youths in the remote settlement of Tsumkwe are proving that innovation can grow even in the most difficult conditions.
With limited job opportunities in the area, they have decided to create their own and opened a small business.
Young people often struggle in the Tsumkwe settlement due to the limited job opportunities, but two unemployed youths have found a different path. They run a printing shop and a barber shop.
Erastus Muhomeki, who opened a printing shop in Tsumkwe years ago, was inspired by his friends from Grootfontein and decided to open his own in Tsumkwe.
Muhomeki saw a need for printing, and now he does T-shirts and other printing jobs.
He narrates how he started with a secondhand printing machine that he bought from his friend.
20-year-old Asser Shivute, a local barber, also spoke to NBC News.
Shivute dropped out of school, as he felt he was more talented in the art of hair care.
They also advise other unemployed youth to start with small businesses and not to just wait for formal work.
