The Office of the Governor, in partnership with the Erongo Regional Council, has announced that it will take full responsibility for the Omaruru Olympafrica Sports Centre, addressing concerns over its management and current state.

The decision follows an official inspection by the Governor of Erongo, Hon. Nathalia /Goagoses, together with the Chairperson of the Regional Council, Hon. Lazarus Kanelombe.

The Olympafrica Sports Centre, a collaborative project between the Omaruru Municipality, the Government of Namibia, and the National Olympic Committee, was intended as a flagship facility for regional sports development. However, during the visit, the Governor expressed disappointment at its current condition, citing major gaps in management and oversight.

Among the pressing concerns was the absence of essential services, including electricity, at a facility meant to nurture athletes and host community events.

"It is unacceptable that a sports facility of this magnitude could operate without basic services like electricity. This highlights serious planning and management failures, and it is something we cannot ignore if we are committed to advancing sport in our region," Hon. Nathalia /Goagoses said.

The Governor's office has now pledged to take full responsibility for the centre, working closely with the Erongo Regional Council to ensure the facility is properly managed, fully functional, and ready to serve athletes and the community.

This move is set to breathe new life into the Omaruru Olympafrica Sports Centre and is expected to drive renewed growth and development for sports across the Erongo Region.Erongo Governor Steps In To Revive Omaruru Olympafrica Sports Centre
