In its quest to engage content stakeholders, the Namibian Broadcasting Corporation's (NBC) leadership is in the Omaheke Region and met with the regional council leadership.
Various issues relating to the broadcaster’s operations, including both television and radio coverage, were discussed.
The NBC leadership also met with the Omaheke Police and the region's sports fraternity.
NBC's director general reaffirmed the corporation's mandate to ensure equitable dissemination of information.
Stanley Similo stated that the NBC will ensure that all citizens have an opportunity to tell their own stories.
"We need to speak to the Namibian people, allow them to speak, and allow engagement that will be constructive in building the country and making sure that all citizens are heard and understood, and part of what we do is to create a platform of this nature where we engage at the level of leadership, which could be from the office of the president downwards, but very importantly, an ordinary Namibian must have a say when we do these things. The NBC also pleaded with the regional leadership to create awareness about the safeguarding of network infrastructure.”
Omaheke Governor Pijoo Nganate welcomed the team, saying their presence will help market the region, in addition to taking the Miss Namibia competition to Omaheke.
"What we need to do is shake off the negativity and the label that has been placed on us for so long. As a region, different connotations have been attached to us. It is now time to say: no, this is our narrative – the one that was told about us is not ours.”
NBC's Chief of News and Programs, Menesia Muinjo, urged stakeholders to ensure that communities are inspired and developed through NBC programs.
"We now have what we call digitisation, where you can interact directly in real time using various online platforms. We also have focus groups operating at different levels. We have groups in the regions, and within those regions we engage political leadership, traditional leadership, and sports directors. For the creative sector, we also have farmers.”
Omaheke Regional Council Chairperson, Rocco Nguvauva, appealed to NBC leadership to address poor radio reception at Omitara and Leonardville and introduce !Xa Radio in the region.
