Aminuis residents in the Omaheke Region have taken it on themselves to support the work of the Namibian Broadcasting Corporation, ensuring that they guard against theft and vandalism of the broadcaster's network tower facilities in their area.

To this effect, the farming communities purchased CCTV monitoring equipment for the site to help strengthen security.

Aminuis's constituency councillor, Isando Kavari, highlighted the importance of communication in today's world, adding that local communities depend heavily on radio and television for information.

The potential damage or theft of such equipment, therefore, holds real risk that may impact development at the constituency level.

"This property will give us, the community of Aminuis, through the traditional leaders, the assurance that as a team we can give it to the NBC to put it at the tower for security purposes. We want to emphasise how our commitment is when it comes to safeguarding the infrastructure; it's a brand-new thing. With time, we shall arrange it with NBC management to come receive it and put it on."

Aminuis resident Kavijenene Tjikava said at one time communication ceased completely after some items were stolen from the network towers, leaving the community in the dark.

Tjikava suggested that, given the high number of unemployed young people, they should be considered for appointment as security guards at the site.

Pensioner Kazatjinda Handura stressed that the radio is important for information, including pension grant notices and public announcements, including funerals.

He called on the whole community to collaborate on ensuring the network towers remain safe.

NBC's head of Public Relations and Marketing, Beaulah Boois-Beukes, noted the high costs of the corporation's broadcast network infrastructure, particularly considering damage and service disruptions from theft and vandalism.

Boois-Beukes stated that after NBC leadership engaged with the Omaheke Regional Governor and other stakeholders in February, the regional leaders agreed to procure surveillance cameras and equipment for the broadcasting sites, particularly in the Aminuis area.

She expressed appreciation for the region's proactive support, saying the gesture reflects the shared responsibility of protecting national communication infrastructure, which remains essential to the distribution of news, public announcements, education and emergency information.

NBC, Boois-Beukes said, looks forward to continued collaboration with the community, local authorities and law enforcement in the region – to ensure that broadcasting services remain reliable and accessible to the people of Aminuis and the wider Omaheke Region.
