The 2026 Namibia Film Week concluded successfully on Sunday, bringing together filmmakers, creatives and industry professionals from Namibia and across Africa to celebrate the growth of the country's film sector and strengthen collaboration within the creative industry.

The week-long event showcased local and international productions, panel discussions, networking sessions and film premieres, creating opportunities for industry players to engage and share knowledge.

The Department of Digital Arts and Animation Head at NUST, Jordaania Andima, said the event also served as a platform to introduce the university's newly established Department of Digital Arts and Animation to the industry.

"And this is a Sunday because we just developed a department of digital arts and animation. This department was introduced to the industry, so it was a day of animation and production. Obviously, this department was a doctor of medical studies. We were looking for disabilities."

Veteran industry guru Kulan !Ganes welcomed the continued growth of Namibia's film sector, saying it was encouraging to see more young people entering the industry.

"My greatest thing right now is seeing that the university in Namibia is going to have a firm degree. That is just – I did not think about it. It's mind-blowing. I'm so happy, and I can't wait to give back by being part of their short courses, maybe doing like a master class in terms of casting and auditioning."

Producer Obed Emvula and veteran actress Hazel Hinda said Film Week created valuable opportunities for filmmakers to showcase their work and engage with audiences.

"We loved the responses and also the questions. After that, we had a Q&A, a questions and answers session. Overall, I think for us, it's an opportunity for us to network with other filmmakers."

"I think it's time for Namibians to be able to collaborate; artists and creative spaces, and even being here at NUST and them having a new programme added which has to do with the creative industry is a plus. So the highlight is, of course, meeting colleagues, meeting new acquaintances, networking and, yeah, all around being able to see our work."

The event also strengthened connections among filmmakers and emphasised the importance of collaboration between Namibian creatives and partners from other countries to further develop the industry.
