The Joint Parliamentary Women Caucus has officially been launched in Windhoek, bringing together women lawmakers from different political parties to strengthen participation in parliamentary processes and decision-making.
The Speaker of the National Assembly stated that the caucus aims to enhance accountability and oversight in implementing gender equality commitments.
Speaking on her behalf, Deputy Secretary to the National Assembly Oscar Muyatwa highlighted that the initiative marks a shift from understanding to action.
He added that the caucus reflects solidarity among women in Parliament regardless of political affiliation.
The Deputy Minister of Gender Equality and Child Welfare, Linda Mbwale, pointed to strengthened cooperation among women lawmakers and institutions while acknowledging persistent challenges in achieving balanced representation.
Representing the Inter-Parliamentary Union, Graca Sanches welcomed the launch, noting Namibia's growing leadership in advancing women's participation in decision-making.
SADC Parliamentary Forum representative Advocate Sheuneni Kurasha underscored that the caucus strengthens regional cooperation on gender equality and completes an important part of the SADC gender architecture.
Chairperson Sharonice Busch and Deputy Chairperson Susan Ndjaleka of the caucus emphasised that the caucus is aimed at ensuring women's voices translate into real policy outcomes.
