President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah acknowledged the importance of supporting the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) but pushed back against the idea that increased funding alone would solve the problem.
The President was responding to a question by the official opposition leader in the National Assembly, Immanuel Nashinge, on whether the government's anti-corruption stance reflects genuine political will or whether it's merely rhetoric.
Nashinge argued that without proper funding, the ACC cannot effectively investigate and prosecute corruption cases, calling for stronger investment to ensure the institution can fulfil its mandate.
The President declared corruption a serious offence, suggesting it should be treated as treason.
Highlighting government action, the President noted that several public officials have already been dismissed since her administration took office, signalling a willingness to act against corruption.
