Learners and staff at Uahekua Herunga Primary School in Otjorute Village, Omusati Region, are celebrating the donation of a new classroom and storeroom donated by Okalongo Constituency Fishing as part of its corporate social responsibility.

Jesaya Hanguwo, Chairperson of Okalongo Ltd, urged the school community to care for the new facilities: “Uahekua Herunga Primary School, you are the luckiest among marginalized and far remote schools benefiting from this scheme, therefore handle your property with care.”

The boarding school still faces challenges including lack of mattresses, Wi-Fi connectivity, and a cooling room for perishable hostel food. Additional needs include an administration block, dining hall, and school transport, as the nearest health facilities are 40 to 45 kilometers away.

The classroom and storeroom were handed over by Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Land Reform Ruthy Masake, who said:
“Education remains one of the most powerful tools we have to fight poverty, inequality, and unemployment. As a government, we continue to prioritize educational infrastructure to ensure every Namibian child has access to a conducive learning environment.”

Chief Education Officer in Omusati, Justina Amupolo, praised the donor: “Okalongo Constituency Fishing, you are not just a donor, you are the composer of Omusati success stories. You are the core author of this school’s success. These learners succeed because of the support you have given.”
