The Erongo Tourism Forum recently met with stakeholders in Uis, Daures Constituency, to unveil funding, training, and development initiatives aimed at boosting rural tourism entrepreneurship.

Desmond Kambatuamasa, Regional Council Director for Development, Planning and Evaluation, emphasized tourism as a vital sector for regional growth. He noted available support through constituency development funds and project pipelines enabling small businesses to start and grow.

However, entrepreneurs highlighted challenges accessing information, particularly youth in remote areas. Keneth Kapitako of the Forum and local resident Theresia Garises called for clearer communication and more training opportunities.

Ronny Dempers, CEO of Namibia Development Trust, announced an upcoming launch of a social economic development fund valued at approximately $4 million to support conservancies and rural tourism businesses.

Erongo Governor Natalia /Goagoses announced plans to fast-track skills development via a repurposed vocational centre in Omaruru, offering tourism courses directly to rural students.

“If I can start courses from Uis or Omatjete or Okombahe, we are ready. The ministry and Namibia Tourism Authority are on board,” she said, urging reduced bureaucracy and swift action.

Connecting rural entrepreneurs to these opportunities remains a key priority for the forum.
