President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has reaffirmed Namibia's commitment to press freedom, describing it as essential to democracy, human rights and national stability.

In her World Press Freedom Day message, she highlighted Namibia’s strong global standing, ranked 23rd worldwide and second in Africa, as a reflection of its commitment to transparency and the rule of law.

Dr. Nandi-Ndaitwah cautioned that growing misinformation, disinformation, and geopolitical tensions are placing pressure on media institutions, making a free and responsible press more critical than ever.

The President commended journalists for their role in promoting accountability and national dialogue while urging continued adherence to ethical, accurate, and fair reporting.

She reaffirmed the government's commitment to safeguarding press freedom and called on all stakeholders to protect and strengthen it.
