The Oshakati Hospital joined the rest of the world in celebration of International Nurses Day, recognising the selfless contribution that nurses continue to make towards the health and wellbeing of communities.
The day also honours the legacy of Florence Nightingale as the founder of modern nursing.
Health Director Johanna Haimene said, “Professionalism and ethical conduct remain fundamental pillars of nursing practice. Nurses are expected to uphold integrity, confidentiality, accountability, and respect for human life at all times. How nurses conduct themselves, communicate with patients, and work with colleagues greatly influences the quality of healthcare services delivered to our communities.”
IUM Coordinator Dr. David Sabina stated, “Nurses are the backbone and the heart of healthcare. The ones who stand at the bedside and comfort, the nurses who heal and save lives every single day. Empowering nurses means empowering communities because without nurses there is no future for health.”
Long-serving nurse Maria Shadipeni expressed, “I have been in the service for so long, I might say, the whole of my life. The only profession I know is nursing. It’s so rewarding and encouraging when we come together to get this encouragement from our leaders like our health director for Oshana and all the leaders from learning institutions. We are very thankful and look forward to this day being celebrated every time.”
