Members of the National Council have accused the National Assembly of using delaying tactics in passing laws aimed at benefiting the public.

This was during the discussions on the budget allocation towards the National Assembly, with an amount of N$416.5 million.

The National Council expressed disappointment in members of the National Assembly for approving only one bill since the beginning of their tenure.

Swapo Party MP in the National Council, Joseph Sikongo, said, "I really want the lower house to redouble their effort. When we come next August, we want to see many bills. Not the story of one. People vote for this country. (Audience Applauding) We must not go on personal issues. Arguing, arguing, battling. This house is not a house of battling one another. This is a house for us to be in order."

The Swapo Party MP Andreas Amundjindi emphasised that members of the National Assembly should not serve for political gain or personal interest, but rather serve in the interest of the nation.

"There are bills that are not yet passed and referred to the National Council that are bread and butter for this nation. But there are direct tactics that might be. This does not need to be passed so that you can deliver to these people; even for the young ones there, there are bills that are affecting them. But they are not referred here because they know once they rent in the National Council, we don't make jokes. We are in serious business. We have to pass it."

The upper house, however, approved the budget allocation of the National Assembly.
