Botswana has vowed to continue engaging with other nations in the broader Southern African Development Community (SADC) region for strategic economic conduit purposes.

The Minister for State President, Defence, and Security, Moeti Mohwasa, made this declaration yesterday when officially opening the ongoing 30th Business Botswana Northern Trade Fair (BBNTF) in Francistown.

Mohwasa said Botswana's deliberate focus is to drastically improve the ease of doing business across borders, streamline cross-border logistics, and enrich people-to-people relations.

By strengthening these socio-economic ties, Mohwasa said Botswana ensures that its local businesses have direct and unhindered access to a more integrated and receptive regional market.

"This regional stability is further reinforced by our active diplomatic and economic engagements. We have recently concluded high-level binational commissions with our immediate neighbours, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Namibia, and South Africa. These engagements are strategic economic conduits designed to harmonise regional trade frameworks and eliminate non-tariff barriers."

The 2026 BBNTF, running from May 27 until May 31, is the biggest business exposition in the northern part of Botswana and is being held under the theme Value Chain Revolution: From Local Resources to Global Market
