The Keetmanshoop Agriculture, Industrial and Tourism Expo (KAITE) significantly contributed to the economic growth of Keetmanshoop and the region's development for over seven decades.

This was said by the Chairperson of the ||Kharas Regional Council, Gerrit Witbooi, when he officiated at a fundraising gala dinner of the expo at Keetmanshoop.

The gala dinner raised more than N$100,000 for the hosting of the 70th edition in October this year.

The expo creates a platform for small and medium enterprises to showcase their products and services and to foster smart partnerships with semi-corporate and corporate entities.

"This year marks seventy years of building an institution that has evolved into one of the most significant economic and social platforms in the ||Kharas Region."

Witbooi also reaffirmed the government's continued commitment to champion agricultural production, food suitability and trade expansion as key pillars for economic transformation and job creation.

"As a government, we understand that a nation that cannot feed itself cannot fully prosper. Agriculture is no longer just about subsistence; it is about economic empowerment, industrialisation, export growth and national stability. And if there is one region strategically positioned to lead Namibia into agricultural prosperity, it is undoubtedly the ||Kharas Region."

The President of KAITE, Charles Jossop, said the expo serves as a platform that promotes agriculture, business, tourism, and community development in the region.

"And therefore, we extend our sincere gratitude to our sponsors, partners, stakeholders, and every guest who has joined us tonight. Your support is invaluable in ensuring the continued success and sustainability of KAITE."

A South Africa-based entrepreneur, Zimkita Nkumbesi, encouraged online trading. "These days, things are happening online. If you still believe in traditional networks, it's okay. But most of the things are happening online. And I would really like to urge young people, as I am in full belief and support, that young people need to start to think as if there is no box. We no longer consider unconventional ideas."

Nkumbesi bid N$5,000 for a portrait painting auctioned at the gala dinner.
