Education remains one of the most powerful instruments for social transformation, poverty eradication, and national development.

These were the remarks of Namibia's High Commissioner to Nigeria, Walde Ndevashiya, during the official unveiling ceremony of a primary school renamed after him at Oipyaiwa Village in the Ohangwena Region.

Formerly known as Oipyaiwa Junior Primary School, the institution was established in 2015 with an enrolment of 35 learners. In June 2023, it was officially renamed Walde Ndevashiya Junior Primary School.

The school currently accommodates 105 learners from Grades One to Three.

Ndevashiya reaffirmed his commitment to supporting the school and helping it develop into a centre of excellence.

"Education is a shared responsibility. It cannot and should not be left to teachers alone. Parents, communities, traditional leaders, government institutions, the private sector, and development partners all have a role to play in creating an enabling environment for our children to succeed."

Ndevashiya donated a photocopier, school uniforms for all learners, and hygiene packages for boys at the school.

He also donated science laboratory equipment and a smartboard to Omhada Combined School in the Epembe Circuit, where he serves as patron.

Ohangwena Regional Governor Kadiva Hamutumwa welcomed the donations.

"The contribution we are witnessing today is a clear example of how partnerships can help bridge existing gaps and ensure that our learners have access to the tools and facilities they need to succeed. Such initiatives help governments meet communities halfway and accelerate development outcomes at a faster rate."

She urged all stakeholders to follow suit and meet the government halfway.
