The Windhoek High Court has dismissed Michael Amushelelo’s bid to stop the installation of speed humps and to have Works and Transport Minister Veikko Nekundi remove them from the Western Bypass.

Judge Gabriel Komboni delivered the ruling on Friday, dismissing Amushelelo’s application. The judge said the full written judgement will be made available before the end of the day.

Amushelelo approached the High Court after Nekundi ordered the installation, arguing the measures should be set aside. During the proceedings, the minister defended the decision, saying Namibia does not have highways as defined in law and that the road in question falls under the country’s road network where traffic-calming measures may be introduced.

Amushelelo has indicated he will appeal the decision.
