Otjozondjupa Regional Council has officially handed over a fully equipped ambulance to Kalkfeld Clinic, which has been operating without one for years.

The ambulance is a donation from NamPort's social investment fund, which also purchased another one earmarked for Gam Clinic in Tsumkwe Constituency.

Receiving the ambulance, Otjozondjupa Regional Health Director Timotheus Gerbardo said the vehicle is solely assigned to Kalkfeld and surrounding areas and also to assist with emergency response to accidents along the highway.

"These ambulances will only transport patients who are referred from Kalkfeld Clinic to Otjiwarongo or if a patient from Kalkfeld Clinic is required to be transferred directly to Windhoek. Not Otjiwarongo or Otavi patients but specifically Kalkfeld. It will serve the Kalkfeld community within the surrounding farms. If we observe, if you observe, any misuse or abuse of this ambulance, report it immediately to the police."

Otjozondjupa Regional Council Chairperson Paulus Nekundi and Ngeno Nakamela of the Me Ndiku and Ngeno Nakamela Foundation spoke at the handover event.

"The donation of this ambulance has come at the right time, and it's not only the best thing to do, but it's also strategic because of the way Kalkfeld is located. The second ambulance was given by Namport. It is now given to the clinic of Gam by NamPort. What they have done is an example that really needs to be emulated by the majority of corporate companies out there."

"Me Ndiku Ambulance is here to stay for health care service delivery. We appreciate this donation wholeheartedly, and we pledge to care, to take good care of it."

Hospital beds and gardening implements were also donated to the clinic, which serves a population of close to 7000 inhabitants.
