The Minister of Higher Education, Training and Innovation, Dr Itah Kandjii-Murangi, has called on graduates of the Rundu Vocational Training Center (RVTC) to target opportunities in the new economic sectors Namibia is developing.
Her speech was read by the Executive Director, Dr Alfred Van Kent.
More than 500 trainees received certificates in various vocational courses.
Dr Kandjii-Murangi says the green hydrogen and the oil and gas sectors in Namibia are venturing into having enormous business and employment potential. "As we venture into new sectors of growth like green hydrogen, the oil industry that you have now heard about, the green iron production facilities that are around, even in one of our regions here nearby, we demand skills supply so that we can take full charge of these growth areas, and this is again a task that will fall on the shoulders of our TVET centres."
Among others, graduates were awarded in bricklaying and plastering, electrical general, auto mechanic, welding and metal fabrication, plumbing and pipefitting.
About 30 graduates also received certificates in newly introduced farm machinery and horticulture courses.
Also speaking at the occasion was Kavango East Governor, Bonifatius Wakudumo. "I would like to encourage you, dear graduates, to always come up with solutions to the challenges faced by our communities and our farmers in the farming sector in order for the country to achieve its objectives and economic prosperity."
Wakudumo called on trainees to use the skills they acquired to be agents of change in their communities.
