The Swapo Party's Special Central Committee held on Friday decided not to allow Jerry Ekandjo to join the race for the party's Vice President.
President Hage Geingob opened the meeting at the Parliament Gardens and called on the members to, among others, discuss the exclusion of Jerry Ekandjo from the Vice Presidential race.
President Geingob categorically stated in his opening remarks that there is no disunity in Swapo and that the party is busy with a unique democratic exercise of electing its top office bearers.
He said that there was no boycott of the event, stating that the entire Central Committee was in attendance.
The president told the media present that they would be disappointed that there is no war in Swapo, adding that the delegates are campaigning together peacefully.
The candidates are competing for party positions and not for the presidency of the country.
He told the media that the process is an internal Swapo matter that is unique and has never been done before.
The president continued and thanked the candidates for travelling throughout the country together, saying that the enemies of Swapo are disappointed that there are no fights.
The trendsetting process, he said, is like people going for job interviews.
Jerry Ekandjo, who wanted to be included in the race for the party's vice president position, was eliminated from the race.
Currently, incumbent party vice-president Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, Saara Kuukongelwa-Amadhila and Pohamba Shifeta are in the race, following the withdrawal of Frans Kapofi.
The party's leadership has resolved to engage Ekandjo directly on the decision taken by the CC not to allow him back into the race.
