Two brothers died instantly this morning following a freak accident in an earth dam at Eenhana in the Ohangwena Region.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the two were part of a group of four men whose motor vehicle, a Toyota Hilux, was being reversed to the edge of the earth dam for the occupants to draw water and fill containers for their brick-making business when the car flipped and fell into the dam, being submerged within minutes.

Both the brothers Lukas and Immanuel Shapwanale, who are aged 31 and 30, respectively, submerged with the vehicle, whilst the two other passengers who were sitting on the loading box managed to swim to safety and were taken to the hospital for observation.

The deceased's bodies were retrieved by Nampol divers from Oshakati, while the local fire brigade assisted in the recovery of the vehicle.
