The Bukalo Village Council has given an early Christmas to some of the elderly.

Twenty-two senior citizens received food parcels, which include 10-kilogram bags of maize meal, sugar, flour, cooking oil and rice.

The Chairperson of the Management Committee, Judith Mwilima said the money used to buy food parcels was not however enough to cater for everyone.

"From the age of 60, there are those who have started but still have energy, so we decided to take those who are really down that is what we did."

Mwilima said the initiative will be an annual one to ensure that every senior citizen benefits from the programme.
