The visitors to Dune 7 say the decision by the Ministry of Environment, Forestry, and Tourism to charge an entrance fee is preventing people from accessing the recreational facility.

The Dune is one of the nation's tourist landmarks that usually draws hundreds of visitors with its natural height.

Between December 24 and 25, more than 300 Namibians visited the site, compared to 302 SADC visitors and 20 international visitors.

On November 14 of this year, the Ministry of Environment, Forestry, and Tourism instituted an entrance fee, explaining that some human activities have an impact on conservation in the area and threaten the existence of birds such as the Damara Tern.

The ministry says the funds are needed to maintain the tourism facility. The opening of Dune 7 comes after renovations, but visitors say the ministry can do better.
