Local food processing company African Deli has donated food items to flood-affected schools in the Ohangwena Region, worth N$383,000. 

6000 packs of matangara, six thousand packs of chicken gizzards, and 4800 packs of speckled sugar will be distributed to 32 schools for the benefit of approximately four thousand, 453 students.

Speaking during the handing over of the items at Oshikango's Emergency Operation Center, African Deli Factory Manager, Ndelitungapo Nghinamundova, says the company responded to distress calls made by the Forum for African Women Educationalists of Namibia (Fawena) to provide relief to flood-affected communities and school-going children in the Ohangwena Region.

"As a Namibian company, this is one of our corporate social responsibility interventions that allow us to act when our people need assistance. We are concerned about your plight in the face of a ravaging flood, and it is only appropriate that we demonstrate that African Deli is with you in this trying period of natural disaster."

Chairperson of the Ohangwena Regional Council, Erickson Ndawanifwa, who received the donation on behalf of the Minister of Education, Arts, and Culture, urged the schools' authorities to remain accountable and ensure that the items reach their intended beneficiaries.

The flood left many displaced and housed in camps as a result.

36 schools were temporarily closed, though all but one have since reopened.
