Rundu Magistrate's Court in disrepair

The Rundu Magistrate's Court has not been renovated for over a decade and is now in disrepair. 

The court is currently out of storage and office space. 

The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Constitutional and Legal Affairs was informed about these concerns during a site visit.

Much of the Rundu Magistrate's Court in Kavango East is an assortment of peeling walls, various holes in the roof, and broken windows. 

Years have passed without any improvements to the building.

Government allocates N$2.8 million for regional memorial services

The government has allocated N$2.8 million to all 14 regions of the country towards the hosting of regional memorial services. 

Each region received N$200,000.

So far, the Oshana, Hardap, and Kunene regions have hosted their memorial services.

Oshikoto, Ohangwena, and Kavango West Regions will host theirs on Wednesday, while Omusati and Kavango East memorial services will take place on Thursday.

Some of those who want to attend the late President Hage Geingob's funeral and memorial service are appealing to the government to provide transport.

Conflicts among residents in Kahenge Village need resolving

The residents of the Germany Informal Settlement at Kahenge Village in Kavango West are calling on the town council to resolve a conflict among residents sharing neighbouring plots.

The neighbours have been embroiled in a standoff after the council surveyed and demarcated plots, leaving some unhappy as others built structures in their yards.

Eye camp concludes for 2023

Renowned ophthalmologist Dr. Helena Ndume, along with a dedicated team of medical professionals, has concluded this year's free eye clinic at Oshakati Intermediate Hospital with a focus on removing cataracts and restoring vision to patients.

This initiative has brought new hope and transformed the lives of 2,410 patients, comprised mainly of the elderly, in the Ohangwena, Omusati, Oshana, Kunene, and Kavango West regions.

Cataracts, a common cause of vision loss, have left many individuals struggling with impaired sight.

Undocumented residents from Bravo Settlement get assisted

Undocumented and stateless residents from Bravo Settlement in Kavango West got an opportunity to be registered by the Ministry of Home Affairs, Immigration, Safety and Security.

The initiative was held on Africa Civil Registration and Vital Statistics Day, usually celebrated on August 10 each year.

Africa Civil Registration and Vital Statistics Day is about increasing public awareness of the importance of the timely registration of vital events, particularly births and deaths.

Home Affairs Ministry called to enhance civil registration outreach programmes in Kavango West Region

The Councillor of Musese Constituency in Kavango West Region, Kosmos Katura, has urged the Ministry of Home Affairs, Immigration, Safety and Security to enhance civil registration outreach programmes within his constituency.

Katura's call follows a significant turnout of undocumented Namibians seeking registration at Olavi Sivute Combined School.

Katura says a considerable number of individuals, particularly children, lack national identity documents.

Six cattle die mysteriously at Nyege Village

Six cattle died under mysterious circumstances at Nyege Village in Kavango West's Mpungu Constituency.

Veterinary officials are now investigating what could have caused the deaths in about an hour.

The samples were taken for laboratory tests to determine or rule out the possibility of a contagious animal disease.

The owner of the cattle, Festus Hamatwi, says the livestock never showed any clinical symptoms when they were brought back from pastures.

Hamatwi says a commotion at the crawl erupted after they saw cattle falling over, one after the other.

About N$41,8 million spent as compensation on human-wildlife conflict issues

About N$41,8 million has been spent as compensation for human-wildlife conflict-related issues since 2009.

This is contained in a report presented by the Ministry of Environment, Forestry, and Tourism at the just-ended National Human-Wildlife Conflict (HWC) in Windhoek.

The highest compensation of N$9,2 million was made last year, followed by 2021 with N$6,3 million and N$5,3 million in 2021.

N$3.3 million in compensation was made between 2011 and 2016.
