Hardap Region joins nation in honoring late President Hage Geingob

Mourners from the Hardap Region joined the rest of the country in ensuring that the late President Hage Geingob received a dignified and befitting farewell as a leader who had left an unforgettable mark on their hearts and the course of their shared history. 

They gathered at the Aimablaagte Community Hall in Mariental to join in on the livestream of the memorial service and burial, organised by the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology in Hardap Region. 

MICT gives basic computer training to Otavi's youth

The youth of Otavi are excited to be receiving basic computer training from the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology (MICT).

The MICT Otjozondjupa Regional Office is conducting two-week basic computer skills training for the youth of Otavi.

More than 110 youth in Otavi registered to be part of the training, but due to limited ICT resources, only 31 could participate.

No extension to registration of SIM cards

There will be no extension to the registration of SIM cards.

There are only two weeks left, and once the deadline hits, service providers will suspend the numbers of all unregistered subscribers.

The Ministry of Information and Communication Technology (MICT) held a press conference this afternoon (Friday) at the Government Information Centre for an update.

It has been 18 months since the sim card registration process started, and to date, only 45% of subscribers across the country have registered their sim cards.

International Freedom Festival highlights Namibia's commitment to media freedom

These were the remarks of the Executive Director in the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology (MICT), Dr. Audrin Mathe, who spoke during the opening ceremony of the 10th edition of the International Festival of Freedom of Expression and the Press.

Many journalists in Africa work under difficult conditions, with harassment and threats a daily part of their lives.

Passing of Cybercrime Bill needs to be expedited to protect children - Sioka

The Minister of Gender Equality, Poverty Eradication, and Social Welfare has called on the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology to expedite the passing of the Cybercrime Bill to protect children while online.

Doreen Sioka made the remarks at the commemoration of the Day of the African Child at Rosh Pinah in the ||Kharas Region.

According to UNICEF's 2020 report, 9% of Namibia's population between the ages of 12 and 17 has experienced online sexual abuse and exploitation.
