State opposes Nigel's review application of charges in Fishrot case

Another legal battle has emerged at the High Court, tied to the infamous Fishrot scandal, as Nigel Van Wyk faces staunch opposition from the Prosecutor General in his attempt to seek review and overturn some charges against him.

These are racketeering, the acquisition of proceeds from unlawful activities, and money laundering.

Nigel Van Wyk contends that his alleged role in the scandal has been exaggerated and that the charges do not accurately reflect his actions or involvement.

88 Youth accomplices in high profile crime bust not yet charged

As investigations continue following the bust of a massive criminal syndicate in Windhoek, it has come to light that the 88 Namibian youths apprehended during the operation have not yet been charged.

Instead, they are being held in a secure and undisclosed location while further investigations are conducted and a decision from the Prosecutor General is awaited.

The decision not to charge the youth but to continue their custody underscores the intricate nature of their involvement in the case. 

Prosecutor General yet to file a plea and counterclaim in the cannabis case

Prosecutor General Martha Imalwa has yet to file a plea and counterclaim in the case in which marijuana activists Brain Jaftha and Borro Ndungulu want the government to legalise the use of cannabis in Namibia.

High Court Judge Eileen Rakow has postponed the matter to August 1st.

Jaftha and Ndungulu are demanding that the legislative prohibition of the possession and use of cannabis by adults be declared inconsistent with the Constitution.
