Family of murdered Bloodstaan lives in fear

The family of 41-year-old Hilda Bloodstaan, whose body was discovered at Tulinawa in Swakopmund with a stab wound and her throat cut, is living in fear as her killer is still on the loose.

Bloodstaan was killed two days before Christmas, and the family members say they are constantly looking over their shoulders.

The mayor of Swakopmund, Dina Namubes, paid the family a visit.

The directive was issued during a safety and security meeting aimed at addressing safety concerns in the town.

The town's mayor, Dina Namubes, says that while people feel safe wherever they live, work, or spend their free time, this is not the situation in Swakopmund.

Namubes notes that gang-infested neighbourhoods are becoming a growing concern for communities, with the safety of learners, parents, teachers, and tourists at stake.

COSDEF recommits to continue imparting skills

The Community Skills Development Foundation (COSDEF) has recommitted itself to continue imparting skills to Namibians, especially youth and women.

COSDEF is the umbrella body, managing at least eight centres in the country.

Since its inception about 30 years ago, COSDEF has graduated more than 30,000 trainees, of whom 400 are emerging entrepreneurs.

Erongo Governor Neville Andre, in a speech read on his behalf, commended COSDEF for enrolling trainees from less privileged backgrounds.

The business community of Swakopmund is unhappy with beggars and homeless people in the town, saying they are harassing tourists and scaring away potential investors.

Residents addressed a safety interaction meeting at Swakopmund.

Also speaking at the occasion was the town's mayor, Dina Namubes, who says she is aware of the various challenges faced by the community and the factors leading to them.
