Namibians urged to foster an integrity, transparency, and accountability culture

President Hage Geingob has reminded Namibians to reflect on their individual and collective roles to foster a culture of integrity, transparency, and accountability.

Dr. Geingob said this in his message on International Anti-Corruption Day.

The president explained that corruption infiltrates every sector, emphasising the necessity for collaborative efforts involving all stakeholders, including the media.

International Corruption Day, he stressed, should move people to unite against corruption every day.

Namibia commemorates World Children's Day

Namibia marked World Children's Day at Walvis Bay.

The event was attended by the presidents of Botswana, Zimbabwe, and the host nation, Namibia.

Zambia was represented by the Minister of Community Development and Social Services, Doreen Mwamba.

It was a night dedicated to the children, one that was not only attended by children from Namibia but also those from neighbouring countries.

They directed the proceedings at an opportune time, not only to celebrate their day but also as a platform to engage their leaders and those who matter in their lives.

Drought programme to start earlier

The implementation date for the livestock drought programme has been brought forward to July 1, 2023, instead of the initial October 1.

This was after Cabinet authorised the Office of the Prime Minister to consider a revision of the commencement date, subject to an assessment of the number of affected farmers and their financial implications.

In recent years, Namibians have felt and continue to feel the impact of drought.

While in some areas farmers have managed to harvest, the same cannot be said about others.

Mother arrested for alleged child abuse

A Windhoek resident and mother of a six-year-old child is expected to appear in the Katutura Magistrate's Court tomorrow on a charge of assault.

In a video that went viral on social media, a mother from Windhoek's Lucia Street in the Greenwell Matongo residential area is seen mercilessly beating and choking her biological child as she cries for help.
 
Police Spokesperson, Deputy Commissioner Kauna Shikwambi, said the suspect was arrested and a case was opened by a Social Worker from the Ministry of Social Welfare who attended the incident.
