Zambezi Governor calls for unity and economic progress in 34-Year-Old Namibia

Zambezi Governor Alufea Sampofu says Namibia, as a young nation of 34 years, needs to uphold unity and work towards economic development and progress.

Sampofu called upon the youth to use education as a tool to shape a brighter future for today's generation and those to come, and to pledge to positively contribute to the country's economic development and growth.

After gaining independence in 1975, Angola authorised PLAN to use its southern territory to launch and fight the war in Namibia in 1976.

The Zambezi Regional Council is ready to host the 34th Independence Celebration for the first time since independence.

Zambezi Governor, Alufea Sampofu, says all logistics have been put in place, and the established Regional Preparatory Committee is hard at work to ensure that come March 21st, it's all systems go.

The Zambezi Regional Council is ready to host about 10,000 people at the Katima Mulilo Sports Complex, and Sampofu is looking forward to hosting the guests.

Zambezi residents joins country in remembering late President Geingob

Zambezi residents joined the rest of the country in remembering the third President of Namibia, Dr. Hage Geingob.

Zambezi Regional Governor, Alufea Sampofu, remembers the late Geingob as a champion of the poor and a people's servant.

Governor Sampofu described the late President Geingob as an excellent administrator and an A-Team leader who paved the way for Namibia's independence under difficult circumstances.

Zambezi Region residents urged to cultivate crop fields

Zambezi Region Governor, Alufea Sampofu, says despite below-average rainfall received in the region compared to previous years, there is a need to cultivate as many crop fields as possible.

Sampofu encourages all residents to ensure they put bread on the tables of their families.

The Zambezi Governor called on those living in the flood plains, especially in Kabbe South and North constituencies, to be on alert for annual floods.

He observed that, as the levels of the Zambezi River start to rise, people ensure they are not caught off guard.

Zambezi Education stakeholders called to play their part without blaming each other

Zambezi Governor, Alufea Sampofu, says the region's NSSCO and NSSCA results over the past years have been disappointing.

Sampofu wonders where the problem is if all teachers are qualified, while the environment in most schools is conducive to learning and teaching.

Therefore, he called on education stakeholders to play their part without blaming each other.

The Zambezi Governor observed that it is not clear whether all parents are involved in their children's education to assist teachers.

Zambezi Expo raises N$45,000

A gala dinner was held to raise funds for the much anticipated three-day first-ever Zambezi Tourism and Business Expo slated for this week.

The expo, hosted by MovasK Investment with the aim of showcasing the richness of the region, will be held under the theme "Unleashing Tourism Potential in the Zambezi Region" from the 27th to the 29th of this month.

Zambezi governor Alufea Sampofu, who is also the chairperson of the Zambezi Tourism Forum, applauded the private sector efforts to rise and rebuild the region from the brink of the COVID-19 outbreak.

Global Hand Washing Day held in Zambezi

The Ministry of Health and Social Services hosted the Global Hand Washing Day in the Zambezi Region on Friday.

The 15th Global Hand Washing Day was held at Siseme Primary School in the Katima Mulilo Rural Constituency, under the theme "Clean Hands Are Within".

Zambezi Governor Alufea Sampofu emphasised the need for traditional leaders, government officials, and regional and local authority leaders to spread the message regarding the importance of hand washing in the communities.

Farmers receive livestock

Twelve upcoming farmers in the Zambezi Region received livestock through the Ministry of Environment, Forestry, and Tourism's integrated landscape approach for enhancing livelihoods and environmental governance to eradicate poverty.

A total of 48 cattle were handed over, mainly to women, youth, and people with disabilities from Machita, Mubiza, Bukalo, Kalimbeza, Malindi, Kabbe, and Lusese areas.

Shun tribalism within the Swapo Party - Sampofu

The Swapo Party Executive Committee Member in the Zambezi Region, Alufea Sampofu, has condemned tribalism within the party.

Sampofu was speaking at the regional mobilisation and recruitment drive at Katima Mulilo over the weekend.

"When we talk about politics, we must be very careful. When you enter politics, it means you sacrifice yourself for the nation. When you join a party, you sacrifice yourself for the party. Your individual interests must be put aside. We should work only for the interests of the party. That is the only way to go."

Security cluster lacks resources

Zambezi Governor Alufea Sampofu says the security cluster continues to operate with limited resources, stating that regional security was compromised due to economic constraints during the 2021–2022 financial year.

Speaking during his State of the Region address, Sampofu particularly mentioned the lack of transport, which has limited the mobility of the police in their efforts to intensify crime control.

However, Sampofu stresses that despite all the challenges, successful operations were carried out that resulted in curbing some hidden criminal activities.
