Police, municipal officials called to respect rights of informal traders

The time has come for law enforcement and municipalities in the country to respect the rights of informal traders and treat these individuals with respect.

These are the sentiments of Human rights lawyer and consultant John Nakuta who spoke on the ill-treatment often meted out to informal traders whilst launching the operational guidelines for the Code of Conduct compiled for Namibia's informal economy. 

Namibia encouraged to embrace entrepreneurship

Namibians need to appreciate the importance of entrepreneurship as the main job creator.

These were the sentiments expressed by the Minister of Industrialization and Trade, Lucia Iipumbu, at the 2022 Namibian Business Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony in Windhoek.

The event, which takes place annually, inducts a distinguished group of entrepreneurs and corporate business leaders in their respective portfolios into the Namibia Business Hall of Fame.

The nominees were inducted under the categories of emerging entrepreneurs, laureates, and honorary laureates.

Oshakati Carribean Recreational Facility inaugurated

The Minister of Industrialization and Trade has called on the Oshakati Town Council to set up a recreational park for children to bring them together and nurture them into becoming responsible adults.

Lucia Iipumbu made these remarks when she officially inaugurated the revamped Oshakati Caribbean Recreational Facility.

Oshakati Caribbean was once a popular recreational facility in the 1990s, but it has since fallen into a dilapidated state and could no longer be used by the public.

The protection of consumer rights ranks high on the ministry's agenda- Iipumbu

 The Minister of Industrialisation and Trade, Lucia Iipumbu, says the protection of consumer rights ranks high on the ministry's agenda.

Iipumbu addressed a stakeholders' meeting to discuss the Namibia Investment Promotion and Facilitation Bill, the Consumer Protection Policy, and the Liquor Act Administration and Licensing at Swakopmund.

In her address, Ipumbu says there is a need for the government to enact a consumer protection law without delay to cater for consumers' interests.

Business community urged to report delays in issuance of liquor license

The Minister of Trade and Industrialization has implored the business community to report any unwarranted delay in the issuance or renewal of temporary and permanent liquor licenses, saying every business is crucial to the upliftment of the country's struggling economy.

The minister was speaking during a stakeholders' engagement on consumer protection, the liquor licensing process and related matters.
