12-year-olds eye in danger following alleged incident of bullying

The ministries of education and health have extended support to the family and a 12-year-old learner who could potentially lose vision in one eye after allegedly being bullied at school.

The boy was allegedly struck in the eye by a ruler thrown by an elder learner at Erongosig Primary School in Usakos.

It is alleged that despite the child's immediate complaints of impaired vision, he remained at school.

He was only taken to Windhoek for medical attention after arriving home from school.

Companies warned to stop bullying emloyees

Benitha Imbamba, the chairperson of the Erongo Regional Council, has warned employers to stop bullying employees and engaging in unfair labor practices in the workplace.

Imbamba said this during the Regional Council's annual meeting at Swakopmund.

Imbamba, while warning management that action will be taken against such employers for mistreating their employees, called on labor and health inspectors to monitor and assess working conditions on a regular basis.

Walvis Bay Municipal workers protest against alleged bullying, mismanagement of funds

Hundreds of employees of the Walvis Bay municipality staged a demonstration to express their dismay over the alleged bullying and mismanagement of public funds by the municipal council.

The employees marched through the streets of Walvis Bay holding up colourful posters with messages such as "No to Worker Victimization and Respect the Recognition Agreement".

This is to show their dissatisfaction with how the council is running the town's affairs. 

The staff alleges that the council bullies workers and has spent more than N$600,000 on unnecessary legal bills.

Employees encouraged to report inappropriate behaviour at workplaces

The founder of National Mental Health Care Namibia,Cathy Kambanda has encouraged employees to immediately report any inappropriate behaviour, such as bullying at work, to management.

Kambanda believes this will minimise mental health problems among employees. Bullying often goes unnoticed in the workplace because it is a slow process of emotional and psychological manipulation that is hard to prove and detect.
