The founder of National Mental Health Care Namibia,Cathy Kambanda has encouraged employees to immediately report any inappropriate behaviour, such as bullying at work, to management.

Kambanda believes this will minimise mental health problems among employees. Bullying often goes unnoticed in the workplace because it is a slow process of emotional and psychological manipulation that is hard to prove and detect.

According to Kambanda, some of the significant signs of workplace bullying include verbal abuse, offensive conduct, humiliation, intimidation, work interference, and sabotage, which prevents work from getting done.

Kambanda stresses that working alone can be very stressful, adding that bullying in the workplace elevates stress and creates a hostile working environment.

"Corporate bullying, basically, at your workplace is about not being able to speak up. Fear is the number one obstacle that we face in our working environment. Where there is no equal value, I believe in equal value is different in factions, meaning whether you are a CEO or whether you are a cleaner, the value should be the same because we all bring in value to make a difference in an environment, so when some are pressuring people below them, that's when people start feeling little."

Bullying, she says, is a serious issue in workplaces across the globe and could cause depression, which ultimately leads to suicide.

Kambanda stated the need to raise awareness about bullying in the workplace to combat mental health issues among employees.

The Ministry of Health and Social Services reported that 679 people committed suicide between January 2021 and May 2022.

The number includes 559 men, 91 women, and 29 children.
