Learners urged to break cycle of poverty through education

The Ministry of Education, Arts, and Culture Executive Director, Sanet Steenkamp, has reminded learners of their responsibility to break the cycle of unemployment and poverty through education, saying it rests with them.

Since 1992, the government has constructed 419 schools across the country. 

Currently, there are 2,036 registered schools in total, catering to 896,311 learners. 

The teacher population stands at 33,322, 22,000 of whom are female. 

School payments to be centralised

The Ministry of Education, Arts, and Culture is centralising school payments to expedite fund disbursement for academic activities.

Some schools have voiced concerns about the slow release of funds.

Schools across Namibia need renovations

A number of schools across the country need renovations, but the government, however, says it cannot do it alone.

Calling for a joint effort, the Executive Director of the Ministry of Education, Sanet Steenkamp, made the appeal during the handover ceremony of the renovated Eros Girls school hostel.
