The Cheetah Cement factory outside Otjiwarongo has released a list of employees it says will be retrenched. The retrenchment coincides with the industrial action that started at the mine today. The striking employees found the list titled "Employees likely to be affected" with the names of all 105 employees who are taking part in the strike when they arrived at the company this morning. Only permanent employees are on strike while contract employees and Chinese nationals continue with production. The employees demand a salary increase of 9% and a 15% pension contribution across the board, 100% medical aid cover, which should include cover for two dependents, and an increased monthly housing allowance of N$2 500 for all employees.
