Windhoek residents and businesses owe the financially limping municipality N$1,2 billion and the City Council has therefore resolved to re-appoint RedForce Debt Management in hopes to recoup the money owed. RedForce will carry out debt collection efforts in and around the jurisdiction of Windhoek. The City has announced that all accounts handed over to the Debt Collection Agent will be suspended until the account is settled or payment arrangements are made. Last month, former Management Committee Councillor Jurgen Hecht unceremoniously announced that the City is drowning in a debt of N$2.8 billion and can no longer sustain some of its services. The IPC Councillor also stated that the City is merely operating on an overdraft facility.
