The ongoing illegal trade along the Namibian border by Zambian nationals can only be resolved through cooperation with the neighbouring state. Police Regional Commander in Zambezi, Commissioner Marius Katamila says, the problem has been there for years, and cannot be resolved by one country alone. The Police Commissioner's pronouncement follows a recent confrontation, which almost turned violent, between Zambian traders and the Namibian police, when the traders refused to leave the Namibian territory and started attacking police officers. In a video taken by a Zambian national which went viral on Tuesday, the traders alleged harassment perpetrated by the Namibian Police in what they described as no-man land. During Tuesday's altercation, the Zambian traders allegedly confiscated a reflective jacket and handcuffs of a Namibian police officer, which were later returned when the situation calmed down.
