China's new Ambassador to Namibia, Zhao Weiping, says China will continue supporting Namibia's social and economic development through the expansion of bilateral cooperation in extensive areas.

He remarked on this during his introductory ceremony in Windhoek.

The event was attended, among others, by Founding President Sam Nujoma, government officials, and prominent businesspeople.

Ambassador Weiping sympathized with families who lost loved ones and property during the recent floods in northern Namibia.

He pledged support to the affected residents, citing that Namibia and China enjoy long, profound diplomatic relations, which have only deepened over the past 33 years.

"My important mission as Chinese Ambassador is to faithfully implement the consensus of the leaders of our two countries, carry forward traditional friendship, actively promote our common interests, and further deepen friendly exchanges and practical cooperation in various fields, so as to bring more benefits to our two peoples."

Ambassador Weiping vowed to serve the Namibian people during his tenure and share views to promote and strengthen the two nations' cooperation.
