Namibian women are increasingly embracing technology as a tool to revolutionize their lives, work, and communication.
Nashilongo Gervasius-Nakale, a Digital Consultant and Lecturer at NUST, and Toini Alumbungu, a Program Coordinator for Namibia Rural Woman Assembly, were on nbc's Tupopyeni program to share their views.
"From a policy perspective, we have conducted several studies on the intersection between women and technology. One of our reports, which was launched by the First Lady in 2020, revealed that Namibia is one of the countries with a gender digital gap that primarily affects women.
"Speaking from a rural woman's background, we have a movement with more than 300 members. There has been a gap, but we managed to get them laptops. Our women are willing to learn... to market their products."
As the world commemorates International Women's Day under the theme "DigitALL: Innovation and Technology for Gender Equality," two influential figures in the tech industry are calling for more tech literacy training for women in rural areas.
They are of the opinion that with more empowered and involved women in the industry, the possibilities for innovation and progress are endless.
They also raised concerns about online safety and urged women to be vigilant against fake profiles, cyberbullying, and online violence.
