Over 48,000 full-time candidates have registered for this year's Namibia Senior Secondary Certificate Ordinary level and advanced subsidiary level examination. 

This was revealed by the Director of Examination in the Ministry of Education, Arts and Culture Clementine Tsumis-Garises in an interview with nbc news. 

Of the 48,000 full-time candidates, about 40,475 are registered for the NSSC ordinary level, while 8 138 are registered for the advanced subsidiary level. 

The part-time candidates are so far, about 30,000. Registration for this category is expected to end today.

"For part-time by yesterday we had 31,612 registered for the ordinary level and only 838 registered for AS to improve. You know we have an online registration so we monitor the numbers. The end of part-time registration was the end of March, but the numbers showed us that things are not okay with part-time. That's why we are still registering now." 

Registration is being done online. 

"Mainly candidates who sat for their ordinary level and AS level last year who did not meet the required results or satisfactory results are re-registering with part-time centres to redo and try to improve their results  and also those who did the old curriculum grade 10 and 12 and did not get good results can also re-do to improve their results."

For candidates who are taking a subject for the first time, they will pay N$90 per subject, while those who e-writing will pay N$108 per subject. 

"There are many institutions that are not registered with the ministry and if they are not registered they should not offer any educational activities and we are advising the public if they take a candidate to a centre whether it a private school or a part-time centre they should insist to see the registration certificate that will help them to know if the centre is legal and what levels they offer."

She also called on all education stakeholders to work together to improve this year's grade 11 and 12 results. 

"We know where we are coming from in terms of last year and the performance of learners is based on what's happening in classrooms we need to support the teachers, and the learners to be able to see an improvement as DNA we provide results as it comes from the marking process, we will not lower the standards we do what is required from us but we need to work harder in the classroom and provide the resources."
