Parliament hosts interviews with candidates for ECN commissioners

Parliament kicked off with interviews with the Electoral Commission of Namibia's commissioner candidate.

Initially, 30 applications were received, 14 were shortlisted, and four withdrew.

The selection committee, which is made up of Batseba Katjiuongua, Neli Tjahikika, Sebastian Kandunda, Zaa Nashandi, Harmoni Beukes, Lydia Kandetu, and Elizabeth Amutenya, will make recommendations to the President with respect to the suitability, qualifications, and experience of the applicants.

16 out of 214 NDF shortlisted candidates fail assessments

Out of 214 shortlisted candidates for positions with the Namibian Defence Force (NDF) in the ||Kharas Region, sixteen candidates failed to appear for written and physical assessments.

Candidates who attended the assessments were evaluated on their English proficiency. Additionally, they had to participate in a 2.4-kilometre run, with male candidates expected to finish within 13 minutes and female candidates within 17 minutes.

Furthermore, the candidates were subjected to other exercises, including push-ups and sit-ups.

Over 48,000 full-time candidates register for 2023 NSSCO and AS level examination

Over 48,000 full-time candidates have registered for this year's Namibia Senior Secondary Certificate Ordinary level and advanced subsidiary level examination. 

This was revealed by the Director of Examination in the Ministry of Education, Arts and Culture Clementine Tsumis-Garises in an interview with nbc news. 

Of the 48,000 full-time candidates, about 40,475 are registered for the NSSC ordinary level, while 8 138 are registered for the advanced subsidiary level.

Swapo Party candidates vying for the three top positions took their internal campaigns to Omuthiya in the Oshikoto Region to engage delegates to the upcoming congress next month.

The candidates are canvassing for support, explaining to the delegates why they should be voted for.

In his welcoming remarks, Oshikoto Regional Swapo Coordinator, who is also contesting for the Secretary-General position, Armas Amukwiyu, called on the candidates competing for the top positions, as well as for the Central Committee, to strictly adhere to the rules of engagement.

Kapuuo faction nominates three candidates for Ovaherero Paramount Chief position

A dispute over the leadership of the Ovaherero people is far from over.

A faction under Senior Councillor Vipuira Kapuuo convened a Chiefs Council meeting at Ozombuzovindimba and nominated three candidates for the position of Paramount Chief of the Ovaherero.

The three candidates include PDM leader McHenry Venaani, Mike Kamboto Rațoveni Kavekotora who is the leader of RDP, and academic Dr Hoze Riruako.

Omaheke Swapo Party Congress delegates in their numbers engage top three positions candidates

Delegates to the Swapo Party Congress in the Omaheke Region turned up in numbers to listen to and ask questions to candidates who are vying for the top three positions.

The party's Regional Information and Mobilisation Officer, Liberius Kalili, says the engagement with delegates, which was not open to the media, shows that the party remains on course to maintain peace and unity.

Speaking to the nbc News team at Gobabis, Kalili says candidates and delegates had a lengthy marathon discussion.
