The Daures Daman Traditional Authority Chief Sakarias Seibeb has called on the Daures Green Hydrogen Village stakeholders to ensure that the project uplifts their community.

"Many times projects come to areas and set up when the project wants to land or support they say all the right things. After the project commences, we sometimes do not hear from the initial people, who applied and made promises and commitments" he added.

The Daures Green Hydrogen Village CEO says the community is considered one of the key partners of the project.

"We are partners with the Tsiseb Conservancy as well as the Daure Daman Traditional Authority. We are in the process of formalizing the shareholding that would sit in trusts to be registered both in the names of the Tsiseb Conservancy and Daure Daman Traditional Authority and I cannot speak about the community participation enough".

Namaseb says among the pre-requisite during the construction phase, was that 50% of the workforce would be sourced directly from Daures Constituency.

He explained that local businesses in the area would be supported, with 20% of the project value reserved for Small and Medium Enterprises, based at Daures.

About 100 jobs are expected to be created during the first construction phase.

Green Hydrogen Commissioner, James Mnyupe says, one also has to realize that the construction sector was hit extremely hard. So for a local company that is 100% Namibian owned to receive N$100 million to start work, not in 2030 as mentioned or predicted but today, is a meaningful uplift, not just in jobs and numbers but in the confidence of the Namibian people.

About N$220 million has been invested into phase one of the Daures Green Hydrogen Village, while the employment forecast stands at about 1000 overall.
