Dâures Green Hydrogen Village to Increase Food Security

The new hydrogen project at Dâures Green Hydrogen Village plans to become the largest food producer in Namibia.

Its Chief Executive Officer, Jerome Namaseb, says the project will set up a one-hectare greenhouse facility that will produce 500 to 600 tonnes of agricultural produce throughout the year.

The Dâures Green Hydrogen Village is based in the Dâures, a constituency of approximately 11,000 inhabitants.

The project has the ambition to produce 31 metric tonnes of hydrogen and 109 metric tonnes of ammonia per year during the first phase.

Green Hydrogen takes over

Over the past two years, Namibians have been hit by a new craze.

Two words have taken over all major discussions in the country, and everybody wants to understand them and be part of them. That's green hydrogen.

Green hydrogen is also known as renewable hydrogen or clean energy.

It is produced by using renewable energy sources such as wind and sunlight and splitting hydrogen from oxygen through a process called electrolysis of water.

So, basically, there is a water molecule, which is split into oxygen and hydrogen.

Daures Green Hydrogen Village stakeholders called to uplift community

The Daures Daman Traditional Authority Chief Sakarias Seibeb has called on the Daures Green Hydrogen Village stakeholders to ensure that the project uplifts their community. 

"Many times projects come to areas and set up when the project wants to land or support they say all the right things. After the project commences, we sometimes do not hear from the initial people, who applied and made promises and commitments" he added.


The Daures Green Hydrogen Village CEO says the community is considered one of the key partners of the project. 

New hydrogen project launched at Daures Green Hydrogen Village in Erongo

A new hydrogen project, at Daures Green Hydrogen Village, was launched in the Erongo Region.

The new renewable energy venture will produce hydrogen and ammonia to be used in agricultural and research activities as well as job creation.

The Daures Green Hydrogen Consortium is a group of various stakeholders working together to run this massive renewable energy project.

The project will have its village some 60 kilometers south-west of the Brandberg Mountain, and its development is scheduled to start in March next year (2023).
