Popular Democratic Movement (PDM) MP Nico Smit has moved to have a comprehensive inquiry into the allocation of public tenders.
In his motion tabled in Parliament on Wednesday, Smit says there is a need to identify the weaknesses in the Central Procurement Board of Namibia (CPBC), particularly in the sphere of due diligence.
Such an inquiry, he says, is necessary to restore public confidence and trust in the tender board.
He says any compromise, loophole, or threat to the integrity and effectiveness of the tender board poses serious threats to the socio-political fiber of the country and the economy.
Smit says the recent furor over the allocation and subsequent cancellation of a health tender shows the incompetence and lack of integrity of the procurement board.
