The Namibia Economic Freedom Fighters (NEFF) want young people at Walvis Bay to benefit from jobs through the Governmental Objective Fishing Quota.

The party mobilized jobless youth to petition the Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources.

A group of young and unemployed joined the march organized by NEEF.

The demonstrators are demanding work in the fishing industry, saying they have the necessary skills to work in the sector.

The group has also called for the amendments of relevant laws to allow 80% of the Total Allowable Catch, to be wet, which would see fish processed on land and 20% frozen or processed at sea.

The Technical Service Director in the Fisheries and Marine Resources Ministry received the petition.

Steven Ambabi informed them that the objective quota has been used to create employment for fishermen who previously lost their jobs and were camping at the Kuisebmond Stadium.

The ministry has been given until 31 July 2023, to respond to the demands.
